FIXED
BRACES

Regain your confidence
and the beauty of your smile

Cvejanović Dental Clinic has over 30 years of experience in orthodontics, and that extensive knowledge helps us determine the most suitable type of fixed braces and treatment plan for each individual patient. Age is not a limiting factor when it comes to wearing fixed braces — your journey toward a perfect natural smile can begin whenever you choose.

Our clinic offers six different types of dental braces, including mini metal braces, which are especially popular among younger patients thanks to the colorful elastic combinations. Older patients, on the other hand, tend to prefer the white variant, which is significantly more discreet.

As a clinic that specializes in cosmetic dental work, we often integrate orthodontic treatments into broader aesthetic procedures, such as combining them with veneers, crowns, or, when necessary, dental implants. One option after completing orthodontic treatment is professional teeth whitening to achieve that perfect natural smile.

REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD WEAR FIXED BRACES

Correcting Misaligned Teeth

Teeth have an incredible ability to shift position, and that ability doesn’t diminish with age. Fixed braces solve issues such as crowding, spacing, or rotated teeth. They also correct bite irregularities, including open bite, deep bite, and crossbite.

A Long-Term Investment in Dental Health

Around 50% of all major procedures performed at Cvejanović Clinic could have been avoided if the patient had worn braces. Braces reduce the risk of cavities, periodontal disease, and jaw joint pain. They also eliminate problems caused by uneven bite and help patients care for their natural smile.

Harness the Natural Power of Your Body

In medicine, it’s rare for an organ or system to function permanently better after a small correction, but with teeth, that’s exactly the case. Once aligned, teeth have an amazing ability to stay in place. That’s a natural power you should make the most of.

Improved Oral Hygiene

You’ll be amazed at how much easier it is to brush and floss when your teeth are properly aligned. No more trapped food or unpleasant odors. During orthodontic treatment, you’ll learn to brush more frequently and thoroughly. You’ll also learn that a toothbrush and toothpaste alone aren’t enough; floss, interdental brushes, and mouthwash are essential for proper oral hygiene.

Aesthetic Appeal and Confidence Boost

No dental procedure creates a WOW effect quite like teeth straightening. The smile you used to hide becomes your greatest asset. A beautiful smile can completely transform your appearance and restore your confidence.

What is the ideal age for wearing fixed braces?

There’s no age limit when it comes to fixed braces. We’ve had patients over the age of 50 whose teeth were successfully realigned, but the ideal time is before the age of 18, as teeth shift more easily and quickly during that period. Ages between 18 and 30 are also a good window, since although teeth don’t move as fast as in adolescence, they’re still flexible enough to achieve excellent results. As long as you have your natural teeth, fixed braces can help correct their position.

How long does the treatment last?

To achieve the best results, braces are typically worn for at least 18 months, which is usually enough for teenagers. In many cases, treatment extends to 24 months. After 9 to 12 months, most patients barely notice the braces anymore, as there’s no more tightness, the smile looks significantly better and oral hygiene becomes easier than it was at the beginning. The exact treatment duration is determined during regular monthly check-ups, or every three months for patients with self-ligating braces who live abroad.

What is a retainer, and do I have to wear it?

Removing fixed braces doesn’t mean the end of treatment. A retainer is a transparent plastic tray worn at night to help keep your teeth in their perfect position and prevent even minor shifting. The rule of thumb is to wear the retainer for as many months as you wore the braces. For patients over 30, we recommend continuing to wear it whenever possible for a few more years, at least two to three times a week.

You can schedule an appointment for fixed braces at any time at Cvejanović Dental Clinic, or you can send us photos or a panoramic X-ray of your teeth and come directly for brace placement. If we confirm that your case allows it, there’s no need fo

CHOOSE YOUR BRACES

Every type of fixed braces can bring your smile to perfection. Aside from cosmetic differences, some options may also affect treatment duration. In certain cases, self-ligating braces can shorten the treatment time and allow for check-ups only once every three months.

MINI METAL BRACKETS

The classic fixed braces—virtually unchanged for over 60 years because there’s no need to fix what already works. A fun bonus is the ability to choose rubber band colors, which are swapped out at every appointment.

SAPPHIRE (CLEAR) BRACKETS

These braces function the same as mini metal ones, but the brackets are transparent, making them less noticeable. For an even more discreet look, sapphire brackets can be paired with white-coated wires.

SELF-LIGATING METAL BRACKETS

Instead of using rubber bands, self-ligating braces use a clip mechanism to connect the wire to the brackets. This reduces friction and loss of force, potentially shortens treatment, makes brushing easier, and requires fewer appointments. The standard model uses metal brackets.

SELF-LIGATING SAPPHIRE (CLEAR) BRACKETS

These braces offer a premium option — more comfortable and less visible. As with the metal version, treatment time may be shorter, although that isn’t guaranteed in every case.

CLEAR ALIGNERS

Clear aligners are an alternative to fixed braces. The patient receives a set of transparent plastic trays that are replaced at predetermined intervals to gradually move the teeth. Aligners can be removed for a few hours daily, but should not be taken out too often. Their success depends on patient discipline, and not every case is suitable for aligner therapy.

Is it necessary to wear both upper and lower braces?

It’s usually recommended to wear braces on both arches, though it’s not always required. There’s no difference in patient responsibilities or frequency of visits between wearing one or both. However, many patients regret skipping the second arch, especially when they later have to start treatment all over again.

Clear aligners seem like an elegant solution. Do they have any downsides?

Clear aligners can straighten teeth just like fixed braces, but they’re only suitable for certain types of misalignment. This option is available if, after an exam, we confirm aligners are appropriate for your case. They are much less visible than traditional braces, though not completely invisible. Their success depends entirely on the patient, since the aligners are removable and must be worn for at least 20 hours a day.

When should fixed braces be worn?

Fixed braces are one of the most effective dental treatments. With relatively low cost and effort, they can dramatically improve oral health. They are suitable for both young and older patients and often play a crucial role in more complex dental procedures, where aligning the teeth is the first necessary step. While most patients get braces to enhance their smile, fixed braces can also correct serious issues like uneven bite, misaligned teeth, and jaw discrepancies.

Clear Aligners

Clear aligners are a modern solution for correcting minor misalignments in bite and tooth position. Made from transparent plastic, they are very thin and worn on one or both arches—both at night and during most of the day. Over the course of treatment, the patient switches through several sets of aligners, each one moving the teeth closer to their ideal position. The total number of sets, and therefore the cost, depends on the complexity of the case.

Types of Fixed Braces

The branch of dentistry that deals with correcting teeth and jaw alignment is called orthodontics, and fixed braces (also known as fixed orthodontic appliances) are the primary tool for achieving ideal tooth position. In addition to fixed braces, there are two other treatment types: removable appliances for young children and clear aligners for adults and anyone who prefers not to wear fixed braces.
