Dental Clinic Cvejanović has officially become part of the Europe’s largest network of implant dentistry experts – EAO (European Association for Osseointegration). This membership is, first and foremost, an opportunity for our clinic to gain access to the latest scientific breakthroughs in the field of implant dentistry and to get insights regarding the techniques which are currently being developed in Europe’s leading clinics, but it also serves as an acknowledgement of our work, since the membership criteria are very strict.
Osseointegration is a biological process discovered in the 1970s, and without it, implant dentistry would not be possible. Human bones possess a unique faculty to grow together with objects made of microporous noncorrosive metal, and this ability is instrumental in making dental implant placement possible. When an implant has bonded with the jaw so as to become immobile, we can say that the implant has osseointegrated.
EAO holds congresses and meet-ups few times a year, and the central congress, the one on which our clinic has become a member, was held on 5th October – 7th October 2018 in Madrid. One of the most prestigious organizations in dentistry, EAO operates from the time osseointegration was acknowledged as a medical principle, and the motto of the 26th Congress was “25 years of implant dentistry – What have we learned?”

FOCUS ON TISSUE REGENERATION
Among the topics covered at the congress, the one that gained most attention was this question: what do we do in case of peri-implantitis, a rare tissue inflammation occurring around an implant, which is the most serious implant placement complication there is. Up to now, most dentists did not have a solution for peri-implantitis, but new findings indicate that it is possible to regenerate hard and soft tissue in places where this process has occurred, and then to successfully replace an implant.
Furthermore, new findings regarding bone regeneration, artificial bone graft and soft tissue transplantation were also a topic of interest at the congress, and the experimental techniques we were presented in Madrid raise hopes that in the near future we will be able to treat these serious complications, which would practically leave no dental problem insolvable. Doctors had the opportunity to gain insights regarding the latest techniques in computer-guided implant dentistry, especially scanning and 3D image processing techniques, as well as how to introduce the new technologies to their clinics, with minimal disruption of their everyday operation.
Cvejanović Clinic was represented at the congress by Dr Srdjan Cvejanović, having previously attended a few EAO congresses, but now for the first time as part of our clinic’s staff. Our clinic is among as few as 11 Serbian clinics to boast an EAO membership, which speaks volumes about the efforts we take to stay up to date with innovative technologies and scientific research, and many techniques presented by experimental groups at the congress we have already used in certain cases, especially when it comes to selecting a technique to use for the most complex implant procedures.
